First Indian Wedding Reception.

On Friday night I left the house at 8:30 to go to Sabina's wedding reception (what we would call a reception). I was not real thrilled about this event, but I am so glad that I went. What an amazing experience. I learned so much about all of their traditions and had such a great time. I was the only non-muslim there and they were all so welcoming to me. I am so blessed to have Salma in my life and so thankful that she includes me in her life.

The swing where the bride and groom sit during the reception.

The bride walking in and going to swing, the bride comes in first at reception.

The lady playing the drum was awesome.

All of the brides family helping to get her settled into the swing.

Sabina on left and her sister Hena on the right.

The procession for the grooms family walking in.

And the groom...

All of the ladies on the brides side of the family.

The blessings that they perform on the bride and the groom.  The married women on the grooms side will bless money and wave it all around the bride and then the same is done to the groom.  The money is then donated to poor people.

All of the clothes and wedding outfit that the brides family presents to the groom for him to wear for the wedding.

Salma blessing money over Sabina.

The amazing clothes the grooms family presented to Sabina.

All of the female cousins on Sabina's side.
I left the party at 11:45 and they were just beginning to sit down and eat their dinner.  I was not aware that the parties lasted so late into the night.  I was exhausted and had to head home.  I was told that the party lasted until after 3...

  1. Fun! I've been to one Indian reception and it was amazing. And they are so welcoming to people that aren't familiar with the culture. The older ladies at the reception I went to helped me learn how to dance with them: "just make your hands like you are screwing in light bulbs"
